Sacral Chakra
The Sacral Chakra is the 2nd chakra located in the lower abdomen and pelvic area and its color is ORANGE. This chakra governs the experience of our lives through feelings and sensations. It’s the center of emotion, pleasure, enjoyment, sensuality, intimacy, and connection. The energy of this chakra allows you to let go, to move, and to feel change and transformation occurring within your body. It allows you to experience this moment as it is, in its fullness. Winter energy is all about the same -letting go- a stillness that’s transforming.
The Second Chakra is the Key
When the Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) is blocked or not functioning optimally, it can hinder our ability to process emotions effectively. This often results in an excessive emotional charge that accumulates in the pelvic region. Such blockages can lead to mood swings, depression, and a tendency to exhibit cold or distant behavior towards others. Additionally, one might become overly needy and dependent, feel overwhelmed and overly sensitive, and encounter challenges with sexual intimacy. Physically, an imbalance in the second chakra may manifest as lower back pain, kidney issues, and various gynecological problems due to hormonal fluctuations, among other symptoms. Addressing these imbalances can promote emotional well-being and physical health, fostering a more harmonious life experience.
Yoga is a powerful practice that can help balance our chakras and maintain their health, fostering a stronger connection between the body and mind. It effectively stimulates and releases excessive energy accumulated in the pelvic area. By incorporating postures that open the hips, yoga can alleviate both physical and emotional tension, promoting overall well-being and harmony within the body.

Balancing postures like triangle and the cow/cat position the pelvis to help activate energy. Restorative yoga can help calm and rebuild muscular tension as well as soothe mental tension. This can improve the practitioner’s feeling of rootedness and self-confidence. Restorative postures such as the supported bridge; the child’s pose; and the crocodile pose can help to stabilize, relax, and create a sense of being grounded.
Orange Foods:
Eating cooked, warm, spicy foods can provide healing and replenishing energy. Prepare strengthening soups, slow-simmered stews, roasted root vegetables, and warm drinks. Add garlic, ginger, black pepper, cloves, and turmeric to increase circulation and a warming effect, and reduce inflammation. Minimize your intake of raw vegetables, salad greens, and cold drinks. These are better in the springtime awakening. Eating more orange foods in the winter to encourage healing and openness can also benefit the body and the sacral chakra. Orange is also a color of vitality, balance, and strength. It’s associated with the gentle and positive nurturing of ourselves which moves us on our path of growth and development.
We can all benefit from more positive nurturing in every season of our lives!!
